2010 Summer Staff Opportunities

Working at Camp Arrah Wanna during the summer is a great way to make friends, learn about service to others, and grow in your walk with the Lord.  All staff members live in dorm-style housing and participate in weekly Bible Studies, staff outings, and often help with programming elements while guests are in camp.  This is a GREAT way to spend your summer!

Apply for one of these staff positions today:

Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily tasks of our summer staff members and organizing Bible studies and staff activities. The Assistant Manager will also be required to serve as the main Guest Host for our groups while they are in camp. Assistant Manager will work closely with the Director and must be willing to take part in various duties throughout the day. Applicants must be over the age of 25 and have previous leadership experience and training.

Site Crew members work under the Assistant Site CrewManager & Director and has the over-all responsibility to provide Guest Services, such as housekeeping, grounds-keeping, maintenance, and program assistance as needed for the smooth operation of camp for our guest groups and ABCO camps. Applicants must be team players, willing and able to work collaboratively with a variety of staff, performing a variety of tasks and duties in a highly challenging and very physical environment. Preference will be given to applicants who are willing to be or are already Red Cross certified Life Guards. All Site Crew will go through a High & Low Ropes course training at the beginning of summer and will be trained in Archery, sound system operation, etc.

Kitchen Crew Kitchen Staffis responsible for working under the Food Services Director & Hospitality Director to insure that all kitchen and food service operations are implemented according to Guest Group and camper needs. Applicants must be team players, willing and able to work collaboratively with a variety of staff in a demanding environment. Kitchen hours are generally broken up into 2 shifts per day, but the work is physically challenging and requires crew members to be on their feet for long periods of time. All Kitchen Crew applicants must obtain their food handler's cards BEFORE reporting for work.

Maintenance Assistant is responsible for working with Facilities Director to keep camp functioning. This staff member performs tasks such as general fix-it needs, pool cleaning and upkeep, grounds-keeping, and activity set-up. Applicant needs to have a desire to learn, or already have knowledge of, general maintenance skills.

All applicants must be able to live on site during their employment and attend 2 training weekends before summer begins. Although it is not mandatory to be available for all 11 weeks, preference will be given to those applicants who can. Every staff member is required to work 6 days per week during the summer and must understand that working at camp is not a typical 9:00-5:00 job. Each staff member is paid a weekly stipend, with an opportunity to raise funding for supplemental income. Although the work is demanding, it is highly rewarding and offers all an opportunity to serve others and be challenged to grow spiritually, emotionally and vocationally.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities

We depend highly on our volunteers! Qualified ADULT Counselors are always needed for ALL camp sessions. Please submit paperwork listed below by May 31st in order to help us secure an awesome volunteer staff!

Adult Counselors: Counselors are required to attend a training session and submit new paperwork at least once every 3 years.  All volunteers and staff members undergo a national criminal background check. Counselors must be available to be on site before check-in for all camps. Counselors are expected to stay after campers leave in order to assist with camp session transitions, therefore we require that counselors not be responsible for transporting campers to and from camp. Counselors must be at least 16 years old, AND at least six years older than the oldest camper in the camp session. Counselors must have experience working with children and youth, and must be comfortable and competent in leading Bible studies, games, small-group discussions, and with the supervision of children and youth. We take this position very seriously and do not encourage anyone to apply if they are not willing to be a strong and healthy leader and role-model for their campers.

Adults are highly encouraged to apply for counseling positions. In order to ensure the safety of our campers and the integrity of our ministry, please prayerfully consider serving with us this summer at Arrah Wanna.

Program Crew (PRO Crew): Wouldn't you like to spend a week helping others have fun at camp? Pro crew members Program Crewmust be available to live and work on site during their camp sessions to prepare and implement ABCO Primary, Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Family Camps under the direction, supervision, and guidance of the Program Directors. Program staff must be comfortable and competent performing and assisting with ALL aspects of programming needs - music, drama, speaking, sound and video tech support - and must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with staff, campers, volunteer leaders, and management.

C-I-T's CITs (Counselors-in-Training) are needed for our Primary, Elementary, and Middle School sessions. CITs must be at least 16 years old, and at least six years older than the oldest camper in their session.
